How many plumbers, electricians, HVAC and roofing companies have no website? Six metros, counted

Share of contractors with no website, by metro

Every web designer who sells to contractors asks the same question: how many of them still have no website? For the six metros our contractor lists cover, the answer is in the files, so here it is, counted rather than estimated. Across 9,932 plumbing, electrical, HVAC and roofing businesses, 1,615 (16%) have no website on record.

Metro Businesses No website Share
Denver & the Front Range (CO) 2,352 424 18%
Las Vegas & Reno (NV) 1,004 172 17%
Spokane, Boise & Salt Lake City 1,249 198 16%
Portland & Vancouver 922 145 16%
Phoenix & Tucson (AZ) 2,731 429 16%
Puget Sound (WA) 1,674 247 15%

What "no website" means here

Each business comes from Overture Maps places, the open map dataset built by Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and TomTom from the businesses' own listings. A row counts as "no website" when the place record carries no website at all. Some of these businesses run on a Facebook page or an Instagram account instead (the lists carry a socials column, so you can tell which), and a few will have a site that no provider has recorded. The count is therefore a floor for "has a real website" and a reasonable ceiling for "reachable with a website offer".

What the no-website rows look like

The share is remarkably steady: from 15% in Puget Sound to 18% on the Front Range, roughly one contractor in six everywhere. Three things are true of those rows in every metro. Their Overture confidence score averages 0.78 to 0.85, against 0.87 to 0.88 for businesses with a website, so a no-website business is seen by fewer data providers and deserves a phone check before a letter. Fewer than one in ten carries a social profile on record (36 of 429 in Arizona, 19 of 424 on the Front Range), so "they just use Facebook" explains only a small part of it. And where a state registry is joined, between a third and a half of them still carry the owner's name and licence date (99 of 247 in Puget Sound, 69 of 145 in Portland and Vancouver, 152 of 429 in Phoenix and Tucson): licensed, named, reachable, and without a website.

Using the rows

Each list is a CSV and an Excel workbook; filter the website column to blank and you have the no-website set with phone, city, trade and, where the state publishes it, the owner's name and licence date, so a first call can open with a name. A 25-row sample with the real columns is linked on every product page.
